Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Garrett Gould won his first game in a Rancho uniform and the Quakes won their second straight game overall, holding on for a 3-2 win over Inland Empire, in the opening game of Rancho's six-game road trip.

Gould (1-4) allowed two runs on only four hits over six innings, snapping a personal four-game losing streak and helping the Quakes pull to within two games of first place in the South Division.

The Quakes staked Gould to a 1-0 lead in the first as Inland Empire starter Max Russell plunked C.J. Retherford with the bases loaded, forcing in Joc Pederson.

The 66ers tied it in the bottom of the inning though, as Gould allowed a two-out RBI single to Taylor Lindsey, evening the score at 1-1.

The two teams traded runs again in the fourth, as Retherford led off the top of the inning with a double and after moving to third on a wild pitch, scored on Jonathan Garcia's RBI groundout. Randal Grichuk's RBI triple in the bottom of the inning evened the score, as he knocked in C.J. Cron to make it 2-2.

With two down in the top of the fifth, the Quakes took the lead for good against Russell (2-4), as Austin Gallagher singled home Leon Landry to make it 3-2.

Gould retired the final eight hitters he faced, before giving the ball to the bullpen in the seventh.

Bret Montgomery worked a 1-2-3 seventh, while newcomer Eammon Portice worked around a two-out single in a scoreless eighth.

Jordan Roberts, fresh off the DL, retired the only hitter he faced in the ninth, getting Lindsey to ground out. Scott McGough came on and after giving up a one-out single to Grichuk, retired the final two hitters to preserve the win and earn his third save.

Rancho (21-23) pulls ahead of Inland Empire (20-24) by a full game in the standings with the win and looks to make it three in a row overall on Monday, as they send Brandon Martinez (0-0) to the hill against former Quake Manaurys Correa (2-2) at 7:05pm.

On Sunday, May 27th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter, hosting Modesto and Lake Elsinore in a six-game home stand. Tickets are available by calling 909-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
