
Springer Extends Hitting Streak in Loss

LANCASTER, CA - George Springer went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games as the JetHawks dropped game one of their series with the High Desert Mavericks 11-4 on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.
The match up of the top two teams in the South Division started in favor of the first place JetHawks. Adam Bailey hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning off Mavs starter Taylor Stanton to take a 2-0 lead. Bailey added three more singles in the game to finish 4-for-4.
High Desert tied the game in the third inning against a shaky David Martinez. Stefen Romero and Julio Morban picked up RBIs with back-to-back hits and the game was tied at two.
Lancaster took a one run lead in the bottom of the third when Springer scored on a Domingo Santana sacrifice fly. The Mavs would go on to score the next nine runs in the game.
Martinez allowed two in the fourth and three in the fifth before being replaced by Jose Trinidad. Martinez allowed a season-high seven runs on nine hits in a 4 1/3 innings. He did strike out a season-high eight.
Mavs third baseman Mario Martinez picked up two runs with a base hit in the fourth. Martinez finished the game with three hits.
In the fifth, John Hicks hit a two-run home run and Martinez added another RBI-hit to put High Desert up 7-3. Michael McGee hit a solo home run off Trinidad to put the Mavs up 8-3.
After scoring two runs in the eighth, Kevin Rivers hit a solo home run off Gabe Garcia in the top of the ninth for the Mavs 11th and final run of the game.
Lancaster added one more in the ninth when Ben Heath doubled home Jonathan Meyer with two out off of Stanton. The Mavs right-hander finished off the ninth for his first complete game of the season in only his third start. He made 104 pitches over nine innings allowing four runs on 11 hits.
With the loss, the JetHawks (23-21) fell back into a first place tie with High Desert (23-21). Game two of the series will be played Monday night at 7:00 pm at The Hangar. Bobby Doran (4-2, 3.35) will start against left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney (3-1, 4.28). Monday is Dollar Dog Monday at The Hangar. Hot dogs will be sold for $1 throughout the entire game.
