Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, CA - The JetHawks finished off a three-game sweep of the Inland Empire 66ers with an 8-4 win on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium to pick up their fifth win in a row and stay in first place in the South Division.
Ben Orloff and George Springer led the way at the top of the order, going a combined 7-for-10 on the night. Orloff scored two runs and drove in three while Springer hit his ninth home run of the season and added three more singles.
Springer's home run came in the first inning against 66ers starter Baudilio Lopez. Lopez (1-1) allowed four runs in three innings and picked up the loss. In the third inning, Lopez gave up an RBI-hit to Adam Bailey to put the JetHawks up 2-0.
Lancaster broke it open in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to take a 5-0 lead. Jonathan Meyer and Enrique Hernandez walked to start the inning against Lopez before Bryant George replaced him. Rene Garcia sacrificed the runners into scoring position and Orloff scored them both on a base hit. After Springer bunted for a hit, George balked the runners to second and third. Orloff eventually scored on a Bailey sacrifice fly.
After the 66ers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, the JetHawks got two back in the fifth. Hernandez singled and came home on a Garcia double. Garcia then scored on another single for Orloff to make it 7-1.
JetHawks starter Ruben Alaniz ran into some trouble in the sixth. He hit the leadoff man Travis Witherspoon and gave up back-to-back singles to Brian Hernandez and C.J. Cron. Witherspoon scored and Alaniz, the eventual game winner, did not come back out for the seventh. Alaniz (4-1) allowed two runs on six hits on the night.
After Gabe Garcia and Brian Streilein pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings, Lancaster added a final run in the ninth. Hernandez drove in Meyer with a double to right field.
Brad Dydalewicz came on to pitch the ninth and allowed two runs before he was replaced by Andrew Robinson with two outs. Robinson retired the first batter he faced to end the game and pick up his first save
The JetHawks win put them three games over .500 for the first time since becoming an Astros affiliate before the 2009 season. After the High Desert Mavericks' extra-inning loss at Rancho Cucamonga, Lancaster is now alone in first place.
The Mavericks (22-21) will visit The Hangar on Sunday afternoon for the first of a three game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm. David Martinez (1-2, 5.67) will pitch against Anthony Fernandez (2-1, 3.38).
The JetHawks will return home on May 20 to begin a three game series with the High Desert Mavericks. Great JetHawks ticket packages and single game tickets are on sale now. Special group discounts are also available. For more information please visit www.jethawks.com or call the JetHawks box office at (661) 726-5400.
