Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 15-3 on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Long Island struck first once again with three runs in the opening inning against Patriots starter Justin Cassel. A RBI infield single off the bat of James McOwen and a two-run error by Dan DeGeorge highlighted the scoring. Somerset responded with two runs in the second off Ducks starter Joe Esposito on a RBI single from Yusuf Carter and a run-scoring groundout of the bat of Johnny Drennen.
The Ducks re-gained their three-run advantage on Matt Esquivel's two-run single to right in the second. Freddy Sandoval's homer in the third brought the Pats within two, but a two-run seventh and an eight-run eighth for the Flock put the game away.
Esposito (2-2) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing just three runs on six hits while striking out three. Cassel (0-3) took the loss, yielding five runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks in four innings.
Esquivel led the Flock with three hits and three RBI, while Ray Navarrete also drove in three runs. Navarrete, McOwen, Dan Lyons and Kraig Binick each chipped in with two hits.
The Ducks and Patriots wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35. It's a Sunday Family Fun Day at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the entire Ducks team, and after the game, kids (and kids at heart) will get to run the bases on the Ducks' pristine playing surface, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
In addition, the Ducks will be hosting a food drive in conjunction with Long Island Cares and the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Fans are asked to donate non-perishable food items by dropping them off at the collection bins outside the ballpark.
