Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC -ÃÂ Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day of soccer at BC Place, as Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Seattle Sounders FC renew their Interstate 5 rivalry with their first Major League Soccer meeting of 2012.ÃÂ 1,500 tickets remain for this Cascadia Cup curtain raiser, which will surely add to the folklore that is soccer in the Pacific Northwest. Don't miss out on your chance to be part of the derby action=21 Fans can purchase their tickets starting at $20, plus applicable service charges, at all Ticketmaster Ticket Centres, online at ticketmaster.ca/whitecaps, or Charge-by-Phone at 1.855.6.GO-CAPS (1.855.646.2277).
"This weekend's match renews one of the best rivalries in soccer and sport, as Vancouver and Seattle have battled for Pacific Northwest bragging rights since 1974," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. "We look forward to the latest chapter of this long-standing derby contest and the opportunity to create another memorable day in the colourful sporting history of BC Place."
The magnitude of tomorrow's derby contest has prompted an interesting challenge from both sides. NBA basketball star and Whitecaps FC co-owner Steve Nash has challenged his Sounders FC ownership counterpart in actor, comedian, and game show host Drew Carey. The losing club's co-owner will wear the winning club's jersey and take a picture of himself in that jersey for Twitter. There is a similar challenge between the three Cascadia Cup cities' mayors - Vancouver mayor and avid soccer player Gregor Robertson, Seattle mayor Michael McGinn, and Portland mayor Sam Adams. The jerseys of this year's Cascadia Cup winning side will be worn by the mayors and staff of the two beaten clubs.
Speaking of cups, tomorrow sees the final of this year's UEFA Champions League being played in Munich, Germany. Whitecaps FC invite fans for Saturday's match against Seattle to come early and enjoy the Champions League final on the big screen at BC Place, as German giants Bayern Munich and England's Chelsea FC battle for the crown of Europe's top club.
