Patriots Top Bluefish 7-2

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night.

The Patriots scored to take an early lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Freddie Bynum singled, Freddy Sandoval then walked, and Aaron Mathews followed with an RBI double to left field. Jeff Nettles then drove a single up the middle to bring home both Sandoval and Mathews to make the score 3-0.

Somerset added to their lead in the third on an RBI double by Mathews and an RBI single by Adam Donachie to give the Patriots a 5-0 advantage.

The Patriots made the score 7-0 in the seventh on an RBI double by Sandoval and an RBI single by Mathews.

The Bluefish got on the board with two homers in the ninth by Joey Gathright (2) and Prentice Redman (2) for the 7-2 final.

Patriots starter Roy Merritt (2-0) picked up the win with seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Bridgeport starter Paul Oseguera (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.
