
Patriots Stop 'Fish

Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgewater, N.J. - May 15, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (12-6) lost the opener of a three game series against the Somerset Patriots (10-8) on Tuesday by a score of 7-2 at TD Bank Ballpark.
Somerset stormed out to the lead in the first inning. With runners at first and second and one batter out, Aaron Mathews doubled to left to bring the lead runner to the plate. Jeff Nettles followed with a single up the middle to push two more Patriots runners home.
The score was 3-0 when Somerset added two more runs in the third. Freddy Sandoval doubled to rightcenter. With one out, Matthews picked up his second double of the evening to push Sandoval to the plate. After Jeff Nettles reached on a throwing error at third base, and Matthews moved to third, Adam Donache singled to center to increase the lead to five.
In the seventh, the Patriots tacked on a couple of more runs to increase the advantage to seven. The pair of RBI were courtesy of a double to right by Sandoval and a single to center by Matthews.
Bridgeport scored the final runs of the night on solo shots by Joey Gathright and Prentice Redman to break the shutout. Gathright's drive was to right field while Redman's was scalded to left.
Bluefish starter, Paul Oseguera (1-1), suffered the loss as the southpaw lasted five innings and allowed five runs, seven hits, and a walk while striking out six. Kyle Zaleski entered in the sixth and completed two frames while giving up two runs on five hits and two strikeouts. Mike Tarsi made his Bluefish debut and tossed a scoreless eighth and surrendered one hit while striking out a batter.
Somerset hurler, Roy Merritt (2-0), earned the victory as he threw seven shutout innings with Bridgeport picking up two hits and five strikeouts in the process. Carlton Smith recorded a scoreless eighth as the righthanded reliever did not allow a baserunner. In the ninth, Bridgeport produced two runs and two hits while fanning once against David Quinowski.
The Bluefish continue the three-game series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday Morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
