
Bridgeport Signs Local Lefty

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 15, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Mike Tarsi. Tarsi will make his Atlantic League debut during his sixth year of professional baseball.
"We are excited to add a local talent like Mike," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He will play an important role in the bullpen."
Last season, the Tarsi split time between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester of the Minnesota Twins organization. In 28 combined appearances, the Danbury, Connecticut native posted a 3-0 record with a 3.86 ERA, one save, and 26 strikeouts over the course of 35 innings pitched. The lefthander was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He has reached as high as the Triple-A level last year and his best professional season came in 2009 with when he split time between Single-A Beloit and Single-A Fort Myers. In 23 games (16 starts) the 25-year-old recorded a 3.23 ERA with 98 strikeouts and won a career-best seven games. In 120 career minor league appearances, he owns a 26-28 record with a 4.15 ERA and 366 strikeouts in 249 innings of work.
To make room on the roster, the Bluefish have released pitcher Franklyn Gracesqui.
