Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes pulled off their first sweep of the year, hammering the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday afternoon by a final of 9-2.

Angel Sanchez (2-2) pitched eight solid innings and Chris Jacobs went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Rancho's 13-hit attack.

Sanchez enjoyed one of his best outings of the year, as he surrendered two runs on just six hits over a season-high eight innings.

Sanchez got touched for a run in the third, as the Storm took a 1-0 lead.

That lead was short-lived though, as the Quakes answered with five in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Scott Wingo and Brian Cavazos-Galvez each had run-scoring hits, putting the Quakes up 2-1. With the bases loaded and two outs, C.J. Retherford ripped a bases-clearing double down the left-field line, making it a 5-1 game.

Jacobs knocked in the first of his three runs with an RBI single in the fifth, making it 6-1 against Storm starter and Redlands' native Matt Andriese (2-2).

The Storm got their final run of the day against Sanchez in the sixth, as Cory Spangenberg doubled and later scored from third on a wild pitch, making it 6-2.

Jacobs struck again in the seventh, blasting a two-run homer off of Storm reliever Jerry Sullivan, his third of the year for an 8-2 lead. Mike Pericht homered just two batters later, capping the scoring at 9-2 with his fourth home run of the season.

Bret Montgomery worked a 1-2-3 ninth, his first appearance for the Quakes since rejoining the ballclub earlier in the week.

The Quakes (14-17) have now won four straight games and are just three games out of first place, heading into their six-game road trip. On Monday, Zach Lee (1-2) will go to the hill opposite Inland Empire's Ryan Crowley (0-0) at 7:05pm.

After the six-game road trip, the Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Monday, May 14th, as they host the Lancaster JetHawks in the opening game of a six-game home stand. Great seats are available at 909-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...Go Quakes!
