Lancaster JetHawks News Release

STOCKTON, CA - Before this weekend, the highest level of baseball that Tyson Perez had played was rookie ball. On Sunday afternoon, the right-hander was thrown directly into the fire a day after being called up from extended spring training.

Perez, starting in place of Wes Musick who was promoted to Corpus Christi, tossed six innings of one run ball, striking out four without issuing a walk as the JetHawks swept the Stockton Ports with a 6-2 victory at Banner Island Ballpark.

When Perez (1-0) left the game after the sixth, the JetHawks were up 4-1 and he had retired 11 consecutive Ports. The only run he allowed came on a Tony Thompson solo home run in the bottom of the third.

Lancaster took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Ben Heath doubled home Jonathan Meyer.

After the Ports tied the game on Thompson's home run, The JetHawks scored in the fourth when Adam Bailey doubled, went to third on a Meyer fly ball and then scored on a Blake Treinen wild pitch.

The JetHawks added two more runs off Treinen in the sixth. With one out Bailey and Meyer reached on back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up on a double steal and then came around to score on a Ben Orloff base hit.

Bailey finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored. The outfielder went 7-for-12 in the series with four home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored.

The Ports cut the JetHawks lead to 4-2 in the seventh on a Rashun Dixon RBI-single off reliever Gabe Garcia. The JetHawks would respond with runs in the eighth and ninth.

With two outs in the top of the eighth, Enrique Hernandez singled, stole second base and scored on an Orloff single. Orloff drove in three runs in the game.

Domingo Santana hit his second home run of the season in the ninth inning for the game's final run and Kirk Clark finished the game off with a perfect ninth inning, striking out Max Stassi to end the game.

The win evened Lancaster's record at 15-15 and moved them into a tie with Lake Elsinore for second place in the South Division, a game and a half behind High Desert. The JetHawks have won 10 of their last 13 games.

The JetHawks return home to begin a six game home stand with the Bakersfield Blaze on Monday night. Right-hander Zach Grimmett (1-2, 7.18) will get the start on $1 Hot Dog Monday presented by Hebrew National.

Great JetHawks ticket packages and single game tickets are on sale now. Special group discounts are also available. For more information please visit www.jethawks.com or call the JetHawks box office at (661) 726-5400.
