Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (16-12) matched their franchise hit record with 24 and used a seven-run third inning to propel them to a 15-5 series-ending win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (17-11) Thursday night at Isotopes Park. The win gives the 'Topes a series victory over OKC and moves the team to second place and within one game of the division-leading 'Hawks.

Trailing 4-3 in the third inning, Albuquerque led off with back-to-back singles from Josh Fields and Scott Van Slyke. Trent Oeltjen followed by ripping an RBI double to left-center to score Fields and move Van Slyke to third for Jerry Sands, who collected his first of two triples, partly due to a fortuitous bounce off the right field wall that helped plate Van Slyke and Oeltjen to extend the lead to 6-4, 'Topes. Following a 'Hawks pitching change, Matt Angle drove in Sands from third with his own triple down the right field line. Even Albuquerque starting pitcher Will Savage got in on the offensive action, belting a two-run dinger for his first home run of his professional career. The Isotopes rally was capped off when Elian Herrera smacked a ground-rule double over the left-center field wall and scored on a one-out single from Fields to give the 'Topes a 10-4 edge. The Isotopes sent 12 hitters to the plate en route to season highs in runs (7) and hits (8) in an inning.

From there, it was all Albuquerque as the home team added five more runs through the final six frames on the back of a two home run night from Van Slyke.

The first baseman knocked his first homer of the game with a solo-shot in the sixth, extending the Isotopes' lead to 11-4.

Herrera and Becker then led off the seventh with consecutive singles that put two runners on for Van Slyke, who after taking one strike, unloaded for a three-run home run. Van Slyke's first multi-home run game of the season gave Albuquerque a 14-4 lead.

Albuquerque tallied a final run in the eighth beginning with a Tim Federowicz double to left-center. Angle capped off his 4-for-5 night with a single that advanced Federowicz to third, followed by relief pitcher Wil Ledezma knocking in the catcher with an RBI single. After eight, the Isotopes held a 15-4 advantage.

Oklahoma City scored one more run in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as the 'Topes coasted to a 15-5 victory. Savage (5-0) earned his PCL-leading fifth victory of the season while 'Hawks start Paul Clemens was saddled with the loss.

Albuquerque will begin a four-game set against Nashville tomorrow at 7:05 PM. 'Topes righty Stephen Fife (2-2, 7.25) will face Sounds right-hander Seth McClung (0-2, 8.10) in the first game of the series.

The Isotopes' eight-game homestand continues tomorrow against the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 PM with the first of back-to-back Little League Banner Parades and fireworks shows. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
