LANSING, Mich. - Andy Burns scored three runs amid a 3-for-3 day and four Lansing Lugnuts (16-5) pitchers shut out the powerful Kane County Cougars (10-11), 6-0, on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Lugnuts' league-best pitching staff has limited the league's best offense to just two runs over 18 innings, putting Lansing in position for a home sweep.

19-year-old Noah Syndergaard started and dominated Kane County over three innings in which he allowed just one base runner and struck out three.

Anthony DeSclafani (Win, 2-0) followed Syndergaard and faced the minimum over three innings of work, in which the only base hit he allowed was erased on a double play.

Kane County starter Scott Alexander (Loss, 1-1) gave up two runs on six hits and three walks in five innings in suffering his first defeat.

The Cougars put just two runners in scoring position all night: One baserunner reached third in the seventh inning against Tyler Ybarra, who allowed just one hit over two frames, while a second reached second base against Brandon Berl, who pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.

Burns led the nine-hit Lugnuts offensive attack, reaching in all four plate appearances, scoring three runs, and smacking an RBI triple in the eighth. Markus Brisker added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings as part of a 3-for-4 day, and Jon Berti went 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt out of the leadoff spot.

The Lansing Lugnuts continue their six-game homestand at Cooley Law School Stadium on a Grand Slam School day Friday, April 27th, at 10:35 p.m. Left-hander David Rollins (1-0, 0.98) starts for the Lugs opposite Cougars righty Edwin Carl (1-1, 1.77). Tickets are available online at the team website at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
