Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves offense exploded once again on Thursday afternoon as they took down the Trenton Thunder 9-2 at Waterfront Park. The win was Erie's fourth on the road trip and the club has now won back-to-back series.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in a big way in the first inning against Trenton starter Craig Heyer. Niuman Romero led off with a single and moved to second when Heyer hit Brandon Douglas. Rob Brantly walked to load the bases and Jordan Lennerton brought home Erie's first run on a walk. With one out, Bryan Pounds hit into a force out, scoring Douglas for a 2-0 lead. Tony Plagman followed and snapped a five-game hitless streak with a two-run double down the left field line for a 4-0 Erie edge. After a Brent Wyatt walk, Jamie Johnson extended his hit streak to five games with a double to the gap in left for a 5-0 lead. Romero brought home Wyatt and Johnson on a single making it 7-0 'Wolves.

Trenton got on the board in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Jared Wesson. Yadil Mujica singled with one out and scored on an Abraham Almonte double making it 7-1. The run would be the lone run allowed by Wesson.

Erie went back ahead by seven in the top of the eighth against reliever Michael Dubee. Romero led off with a single and moved to third on a Brantly two-bagger. Romero scored on a Lennerton sacrifice fly to make it 8-1. The double for Brantly was his league-leading eighth.

Erie added one in ninth. Pounds led off with his third hit of the game, a double, and moved to third on a Johnson knock. Romero singled home Pounds with his fourth hit of the day for a 9-1 Erie lead. It was Romero's second four-hit game of the season.

Trenton got one in the ninth off of reliever Robbie Weinhardt before he closed the door, preserving the Erie win.

Wesson (2-1) worked a season-high seven innings, allowing a run on four hits with a walk and a season-high eight strikeouts in a winning effort.
