Bridgewater, NJ - The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots will honor former New York Yankees great and New York Mets manager Willie Randolph before the Saturday, April 28th game at TD Bank Ballpark.

Randolph will receive the Somerset Patriots Outstanding Community Service Award for his work through the Willie Randolph Foundation, which supports programs and initiatives for improving athletic opportunities for boys and girls in the New York and New Jersey area. With the objective of inspiring and providing positive leadership to inner-city children and young adults, the Foundation places special emphasis on supporting youth baseball programs and improving playing facilities.

Randolph, a Bergen County, NJ resident, will be presented the award before the game and throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Randolph, a teammate of Patriots manger Sparky Lyle with the Yankees championship teams in the 1970's, followed his 18-year playing career with 11 years as a coach for the Yankees that included four World Series Championships.

Randolph became the manager of the Mets in 2005 and by 2006, led New York to a league best 97-65 record and a trip to the National Championship Series, which they would lose in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals.

He later served as bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and then held the same position for the Baltimore Orioles last season.

"We look forward to recognizing Willie for his work in the community. He is a great ambassador of the game and an even better person. We are excited that he will join us for our Opening Weekend and look forward to sharing this special event with our fans," said Steve Kalafer, Chairman of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

The Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks at 7:05 pm and there will be a Fireworks Show immediately following the game.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will begin at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday, April 26th. Tickets for all games are available by stopping by the ticket office located at TD Bank Ballpark, by calling (908) 252-0700, or on-line at www.somersetpatriots.com .
