Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Jake Hager's two-out, two-run double down the left field line walked the Bowling Green Hot Rods (8-3) off against the Great Lakes Loons (5-6) 2-1 on Monday night. The win in the first game of a three-game set gives Bowling Green their sixth straight victory and third in four home games in 2012. Hot Rods pitchers Jake Floethe and Jason McEachern combined to allow just one unearned run and three hits in nine innings.
Bowling Green entered the ninth inning trailing 1-0, a score that the Loons held since scoring in the top of the fourth. Jeff Malm got the inning started with a single to centerfield. After Malm was substituted for by Juniel Querecuto, Taylor Motter sacrificed Querecuto to third. Joel Caminero grounded out to shortstop to advance Querecuto ninety more feet, and the Hot Rods had the tying run on third base with two outs.
Alejandro Segovia came to the plate representing the winning run. Segovia fouled off several two-strike pitches and was able to work a walk, putting runners at the corners with two outs. Jake Hager then lined a 1-0 pitch down the line in left field that cleared the bases and gave the Hot Rods their first walk-off win of the season.
Bowling Green would not have had a chance to win in the ninth inning if it were not for their two pitchers: starter Jake Floethe and reliever Jason McEachern. Floethe allowed just one unearned run in his six innings, and McEachern, who grabbed his first win of the season, did not allow a hit in three scoreless frames.
The Hot Rods continue their nine-game homestand on Tuesday with the second game of a three-game series at Bowling Green Ballpark with the Great Lakes Loons (Future Dodgers). Hot Rods starter LHP Felipe Rivero (2-0, 0.00) will deliver the game's first pitch at 6:35 PM. The Loons will counter with RHP Brandon Martinez (0-2, 7.71).
