Grand Ending For the White Caps

(Eastlake, OH) - Chad Wright hits his first professional homerun on Monday Night at Classic Park. It came with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning. The slam put the West Michigan White Caps up over the Captains by five runs. The Captains have given up eight homeruns and two grand slams in the past two nights at Classic Park. The final was 7-2 West Michigan.

In the first inning, The White Caps took the early lead. Eugenio Suarez walked and then trotted home on the Homerun by West Michigan's DH Dean Green homered to dead center field. The score was 2-0 White Caps.

The Captains tied the game in the bottom of half of the forth inning. Alex Monsalve hit his 2nd homerun of the season way over the wall in left field. Two batters later Jordan Smith hit a triple to right field, the second straight night that Smith tripled. Smith was knocked in on Robel Garcia's RBI ground out to second base. Garcia had two hits to go along with his first RBI on the season.

Captains starter Felix Sterling (0-0) did not factor in the decision. Sterling pitched six innings allowing just the two hits in the first, two runs, both earned, three walks and four strikeouts. Sterling got his third straight no-decision. Francisco Valera (0-1) relieved Sterling and pitched two innings allowing one run it was earned on two walks and two strikeouts. Valera took the loss. Cole Cook entered for the eighth inning for Lake County and gave up two hits and four runs all earned. Cook surrendered the grand slam to Wright.

The White Caps starting pitcher Josue Carreno (0-0) did not factor in the decision as well after pitching six innings four hits, two earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Luis Angel Sanz entered the game for West Michigan. Sanz pitched a total of one and two-thirds innings allowing two hits with one walk and a strikeout. Dan Bennent entered in the eighth inning to try for the four-out save. He fanned Lavisky to end the eighth. In the ninth the Captains went down 1-2-3 as Bennet was credited with his second save of the season.

The Captains continue the opening home stand of the season on Tuesday night as the West Michigan White Caps and Captains play game two of their current series at Classic Park. The Captains will send Elvis Araujo (0-2, 4.00) to the hill to face Tommy Collier (0-1, 2.70) for the White Caps. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
