Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club earned one point out of a possible six this weekend and wrapped up the home portion of their schedule. On Friday night at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Kyle Greentree scored a pair of goals separated by just 41 seconds, but the Penguins tallied on the power play and added an empty-net strike to claim a 4-2 victory. Following the game, Dany Sabourin was recalled to Washington, which allowed the BEARS to bring Daren Machesney back to Chocolatetown. He made 20 saves in regulation and overtime to help HERSHEY earn a point in a shootout setback to the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday. Machesney, playing his first game with the BEARS since April 12, 2009, also earned an assist on Chris Bourque's AHL-leading 92nd point of the season, a power-play goal. Patrick McNeill also scored for the BEARS. Sabourin returned to earn third-star honors on Sunday, stopping 25 of 26 Connecticut shots in the BEARS' 1-0 loss to the Whale. HERSHEY travels to New England to wrap up the regular season with games at Portland, Manchester, and Worcester next weekend.
One Week to Go:
With the final weekend of the regular season looming, the BEARS currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, and have locked up their seventh consecutive postseason berth.
Bourque a Postseason All-Star:
Chris Bourque, who was recently named an AHL First Team All-Star along with teammate Keith Aucoin, holds a 17-point lead in the overall AHL scoring race. Bourque leads the league in shorthanded goals (5), assists (65), power-play assists (38), power-play points (52), and overall points (27-65-92).
Greentree Doubles Up:
Kyle Greentree became the 12th different BEARS player to record a two-goal game, with his dual contributions on Friday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Earning Their Pay:
The BEARS' game against Syracuse on Saturday was their 15th this season decided in a shootout, the second-highest total in the AHL.
GIANT Thanks:
For the sixth consecutive season the BEARS led the AHL in attendance, averaging 9,872 fans at GIANT Center.
