Oklahoma City Barons News Release
- THE WEEK PAST: The Barons dropped 2 out of 3 at home, blanking Hamilton 3-0 on Tuesday behind goaltender David LeNeveu's second shutout of the season before falling to Peoria 3-1 on Friday and Chicago 3-0 on Saturday. Saturday's loss, coupled 6 straight Toronto wins and a 12-2-0-0 run, has brought the Marlies into a tie with the Barons for the Western Conference lead with 95 points each. Toronto has played 74 games to OKC's 73. Toronto finishes the regular season at playoff-bound Abbotsford on Friday and Sunday.
- THE WEEK AHEAD: The 76-game regular season ends on Sunday. OKC plays its 12th set of 3 games in 3 days to wrap up the regular season, starting with a visit by Houston to the Cox Center on Friday at 7 pm. OKC is 6-0-0-1 against the Aeros, including wins in all 3 at the Cox Center. The Barons play at Cedar Park Center on Saturday at 7 pm against the Texas Stars. OKC has won 7 of 9 this season against Texas, including 5 straight overall, and each of the last 3 at Cedar Park. The regular season ends at 3:30 pm on Sunday at AT&T Center against the San Antonio Rampage. The Barons are 4-3-0-0 against the Rampage and 2-1-0-0 at AT&T Center, but OKC has lost 3 of the last 4 head-to-head meetings after winning the first 3 this season.
- CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS APPROACHING: The Barons were the first Western Conference club to clinch a playoff spot this season. OKC's best-of-5 first-round opponent and playoff schedule have yet to be determined. The playoffs begin soon after the April 15 conclusion to the regular season.
- PRODUCTIVE FARMING: The Barons' back-to-back seasons of 40 or more wins mark the first time in the Edmonton Oilers' NHL history that their top affiliate, either exclusive or shared with another club, has had consecutive 40-win seasons. OKC has already surpassed last season's record of 40-29-2-9 and 91 points with a mark of 43-21-4-5 and 95 points with 3 games remaining.
- YOUNG GUNS: Rookies have scored 8 of OKC's 10 goals over the last 6 games: Antti Tyrvainen (3), Hunter Tremblay (2), Tanner House (2) and Tyler Pitlick (1). The only non-rookie goal scorer in the past 6 games has been Ryan Keller, who has tallied twice.
- DANIS A FIRST-TEAM ALL-STAR: Yann Danis was named last week as the first-team goaltender for the 2011-12 AHL All-Star Team. Danis, who also played in the mid-season AHL All-Star Classic, is third in the AHL's goals-against average race at 2.13, trailing only Toronto's Ben Scrivens (2.04) and Lake Erie's Cedrick Desjardins (2.08). Danis also begins this week sixth in wins (25), tied for second in shutouts (5) and tied for seventh in save percentage (.923).
- EDMONTON SENDS REINFORCEMENTS: With the parent Edmonton Oilers' season over, the Barons received defenseman Colten Teubert, center Chris VandeVelde and winger Teemu Hartikainen on Sunday. Each is on the Barons' Clear Day list and therefore eligible for all remaining games, regular season and playoff.
