Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Cranbrook, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings posted five unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 6-3 win over the Kootenay Ice in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Quarter Final. The win gives the Oil Kings a stranglehold on their best of seven series with a 3-0 lead over the defending WHL Champions.
Rookie Curtis Lazar led the way with a three point night as he remains the Oil Kings leading scorer in the 2012 playoffs with three goals and four assists. The Oil Kings trailed for the first two periods and fought hard against a stingy Kootenay defense.
Two minutes into the third Griffin Reinhart started the comeback as he tallied his first of the playoffs two minutes in to make it a 3-2 game. Continued pressure led to Keegan Lowe's second clutch goal in as many games as he tied the game just short of the midway point of the third period. Lowe tallied the game winner in the dying minutes of Game 2 of this best of seven series in Edmonton.
The floodgates would then open up minutes later as Edmonton Oilers draft pick Kristians Pelss made a great individual effort for the go ahead marker. Mitch Moroz would score a minute later and Henrik Samuelsson would add an empty netter as the Oil Kings cruised to a 6-3 win.
