Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants came up short in Spokane, falling 3-2 to the Chiefs Tuesday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal. The Giants still lead the series 2-1.
Playing on home ice, the Chiefs opened up the scoring as Reid Gow beat Adam Morrison 3:48 into the first frame to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. It was Spokane's first lead in the entire series. They would add to that lead before the period was out as Blake Gal scored his 2nd of the post season to put the home side up 2-0 through 20 minutes.
The Giants cut into the lead in the second period courtesy of Cain Franson. He potted his 4th goal of the playoffs on a nice feed from Austin Fyten. 2-1 is how things would stand through two periods of play.
The third period turned into a tight, defensive battle with few opportunities. With just under six minutes remaining and the Giants shorthanded Jordan Martinook would be awarded a penalty shot; however, his shot would miss that net and keep the score 2-1 in favor of the Chiefs. Just after that same power play expired, Corbin Baldwin's point shot beat Morrison to give Spokane a 3-1 edge with 4:04 remaining. The Giants would not go away, Brendan Gallagher slapped home his 3rd goal of the playoffs with 2:30 remaining in regulation to once again cut the lead to one goal, but that is as close as they would come. Eric Williams, making his first start of the series, stopped 26 shots in the Spokane net to help the Chiefs to a 3-2 victory and get them back into the series. Vancouver leads the best of seven series 2-1. Final shots were 28-28.
The Giants finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage, but killed off all five Spokane power plays on the night.
Game 4 is set for Wednesday night at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
