Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs versus Vancouver Giants first round WHL Playoff series will feature a combined 1,073 wins between the two head coaches, Spokane's Don Nachbaur and Vancouver's Don Hay.
Games one and two of the series will be played in Vancouver on Friday and Saturday night before Spokane hosts games three and four next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tickets for both home games are currently on sale and available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK (7825) or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT (7328).
Hay, a three time winner of the Memorial Cup, is second all-time in WHL history with 556 victories while Nachbaur, a three time winner of the WHL's Coach of the Year honor, has 517 victories, sixth all-time. Nachbaur is fourth all-time in WHL games coached at 975.
Despite the two coaching against each other for a better part of the last 20-years, they have met in the WHL Playoffs just once; a 3-1 series win in the 1999 Western Conference Semi-Finals for Hay's Tri-City Americans over Nachbaur's Seattle Thunderbirds.
The two have shared the Dunc McCallum Trophy for WHL's Coach of the Year three of the last four years with Nachbaur winning it for Tri-City in 2008 and Spokane in 2011. Hay won it in Vancouver in 2009. Nachbaur won the first of three honors with the Thunderbirds in 1995. Hay also won with Tri-City in 1999.
Friday night's game will begin at 7:30 with Saturday night starting at 7:00. Follow the Chiefs on the road with Mike Boyle on SportsRadio 1510 KGA Everything Sports. Xfinity Hockey Tonight will begin a half-an-hour prior to each game.
