Crunch Comeback to Defeat Phantoms

Syracuse, NY (March 14, 2012) - The Syracuse Crunch climbed within two points of a playoff spot with a 2-1 win over the Adirondack Phantoms tonight at the Glens Fall Civic Center.

With tonight's win the Crunch climb to 27-27-4-4 and surpass the Providence Bruins for 13th in the Eastern Conference. Riley Holzapfel and Rick Schofield scored goals for the Crunch while goaltender Iiro Tarkki turned aside 20 of 21 shots.

The Phantoms scored the game's first goal by capitalizing on one of four, second-period power-play opportunities. Phantoms' left wing Denis Hamel fired a one-timer past Tarkki for a 5-on-3 power-play tally at the 6:02 mark of the second period.

The Crunch were finally able to break through Phantoms' goaltender Michael Leighton at the 13:09 Mark of the third period. Holzapfel tied the game with his 12th goal of the season and Schofield added the game-winner just 2:41 later.

Crunchables: The Crunch are .500 for the first time since February 10...The Crunch are now 3-4-0-0 against the Phantoms this year...The Crunch improve to 5-22-3-0 when allowing the first goal...The Anaheim Ducks returned center Ryan O'Marra to the Crunch earlier this afternoon...
