
Three First Period Goals Give Tri-City Victory Over T-Birds

The Tri-City Americans scored three first period goals to defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 Tuesday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
Even though they lost, the T-Birds remained in eighth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. They are two points behind the seventh place Victoria Royals, who lost to the Spokane Chiefs, 4-2, Tuesday night. The 10th place Prince George Cougars also lost, 3-2, to the Medicine Hat Tigers and did not gain any ground on the T-Birds. The Everett Silvertips, in ninth place, were idle Tuesday night.
The T-Birds play the Silvertips Friday night at 7:35pm at the Comcast Arena in Everett.
Patrick Holland scored a power-play goal at 3:20 of the first to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Adam Hughesman and Brendan Shinnimin had the assists.
Connor Rankin put the Americans in front 2-0 at 14:41 of the first. Shinnimin and Holland were credited with the assists.
Tri-City (45-15-1-2) went in front 3-0 at 16:20 of the first on a goal from Justin Feser. Jordan Messier had the only assist.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 20-10 in the first period.
Seattle (21-39-1-1) outshot Tri-City 11-10 in a scoreless second period.
Connor Sanvido cut the Americans lead to two goals at 18:33 of the third period with a power-play goal. Sanvido beat Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie over the blocker with a hard wrist shot. Shea Theodore and Brendan Rouse had the assists.
The Americans finished with a 42-32 advantage in shots on goal.
Seattle goalie Daniel Cotton made 39 saves on 42 shots and his record falls to 0-8-0-0.
Comrie stopped 31 of 32 shots and his record is now 19-5-1-1.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
