Louisiana IceGators News Release
Biloxi, Mississippi--For the second night in a row, the Louisiana IceGators attempted a comeback against the Mississippi Surge. This time, they couldn t climb out of their hole. The Surge scored the first four goals en route to a 6-3 victory over the IceGators. Rob Campbell and Nick Guran led the team in scoring with two goals each.
The two teams went back and forth during the first period until Campbell opened the scoring with 1:03 remaining in the frame. The Surge dominated the second period. Shawn Skelly made the score 2-0 at the seven-minute mark, while Campbell tacked on his second goal of the night with 2:31 remaining in the period. The Surge carried their firepower into the third period. Nick Guran gave Mississippi a 4-0 lead on a powerplay 99 seconds into the frame. Then the momentum shifted to the IceGators. Alex Morton, August Aiken, and Josh Duplantis scored three goals in the span of eight minutes to put Louisiana within one of a tie. That s the closest the IceGators would get. Guran scored his second goal of the night with 1:52 to go in regulation to ice the game for Mississippi. Tyler Ruel added an insurance goal thirty seconds later when he scored on an open net.
We played a solid first period, said IceGator head coach Kevin Kaminski, but we gave up a late goal after we won the draw. Kaminski added, We need to have that sense of urgency and desperation to finish our opportunities and start playing with the lead rather than playing catch-up hockey again. We re in a battle for the fourth spot. Our focus and preparation need to be there. It should be easy to get ready for 60 minutes of hockey.
The IceGators will need to focus and prepare for their next match quickly, as they return home Sunday to face the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The two teams have been battling for the fourth spot for most of the season. After Saturday s games, Pensacola holds a one-point lead over the IceGators for the position. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:05 P. M. The IceGators are Guns and Hoses Day in honor of the Lafayette Police and Fire Departments. Tickets for adults begin at $10, while tickets for children begin at $5.
