Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack have had their fair share of important games this season in a tight Western Conference, but this evening's game with the Sarnia Sting just may be the most important.so far.
The Attack enter tonight's contest one point back of the Sting for 4th place in the Western Conference and two points up on the Saginaw Spirit for 5th Place. The Attack are 6-1-1 in the month of February, which has been aided by impressive numbers from several players. Goaltender Jordan Binnington has posted an impressive 5-1 record to go along with a 1.32 Goals Against Average and .960 save percentage. Cameron Brace has tallied 8 goals and 7 assists in the month and defenseman Chris Bigras is riding a seven game point streak that has seen him collect 2 goals and 7 assists. Michael Halmo is also riding an impressive streak, having collected a point in 12 straight games and in 27 of the Attack's last 28 games.
Head to head, the Attack are 1-1 against the Sting this year with each team recording a victory on home ice. Jordan Binnington started both games for the Attack while the departed Brandon Maxwell played both games for Sarnia. Maxwell has since departed for Mississauga, however; Attack fans will see a very familiar face in goaltender JP Anderson, who was acquired by the Sting from the Majors. Kurtis Gabriel has 4 points in 2 games against the Sting.
Huron Tractor Presents Sarnia @ Owen Sound: February 22nd - Sarnia management decided to completely revamp their lineup in the off season and despite countless injuries to key players, things seem to be on the right track. The Sting have four players who are averaging more than a point per game in Nail Yakupov, Brett Thompson, Ryan Spooner and Charles Sarault. The Sting also made some bold moves before the trade deadline, acquiring JP Anderson from the Majors and Ryan Spooner from the Frontenacs. Projected 1st overall pick Nail Yakupov leads the Sting in Points Per Game with an impressive 1.79 rating.
Look Out For - No question, Nail Yakupov. The Russian superstar is projected to go 1st overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and he has shown why in a big way. In only 34 games, Yakupov has collected 27 goals and 34 assists and leads the team with a +19 rating. Yakupov has missed time with various small injuries, the latest being a nagging knee injury that he suffered at the WJHC. Despite missing games, make no mistake that Yakupov is the most dangerous player in the Ontario Hockey League.
Last 10 Games - Attack 6-3-1-0 (5th in Western Conference) Sting 6-3-0-1 (4th in Western Conference)
