Road Weary Red Claws Fall Short to Texas, 114-107

PORTLAND, ME - Arriving just hours before the game after being snowbound following Friday night's game at Erie, the road-weary Maine Red Claws (14-17) fell to the visiting Texas Legends (12-19), 114-107. Red Claws guard Kenny Hayes (17 pts - 10 assists - 8 rebounds) fell just two rebounds shy of recording his first-ever triple-double as Maine dropped the first game of a three-game home stand.

With seven lead changes and nine tied scores in the first half, the Red Claws and Legends battled for the lead in the first half of the game. Maine battled back from a first-quarter, five-point deficit to gain a narrow edge at halftime, 56-54. Texas came back recharged during the third, pulling away from Maine to end the third frame with an 11-point lead. Maine pulled close but never close enough in the fourth and was unable to make a comeback, losing 107-114. The Legends had six players scoring double digits. They were led by Sean Williams and Alando Tucker with 27 and 25 pts respectively, with Williams adding 9 rebounds to narrowly miss the double-double. Tucker led the third quarter charge with 11 points of his own, ending with 21 in the second half alone.

Morris Almond led the Red Claws in scoring with 26 points. Lawrence Hill, the Adidas Player of the Game had a memorable night with a double-double, scoring 20 points and leading all players in rebounds with 13. Craig Brackins, who was 3 for 3 from the 3 point line during the first half, also had 20 points on the night, despite early foul trouble. Kenny Hayes just missed the second triple-double in Red Claws' history, contributing 17 points to the losing end while adding 10 assists and8 rebounds.

THURSDAY NIGHT IS DeSHAWN SIMS BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT : February 16 will be DeShawn Sims Rookie of the Year Bobblehead Night, with the first 1,000 fans taking home the mini DeShawn, courtesy of Wright Express. The statuette is emblazoned with "Rookie of the Year" and Sims' favorite word "Respect" in honor of the 2010-11 NBA Development League Rookie of the Year. February 16 will also be Pink Night in Maine, with the Red Claws players donning pink uniforms to bring attention to breast cancer research and organizations. Groups in attendance will have several opportunities to fundraise for and bring attention to their organizations. The team will take on the Dakota Wizards at 7 PM. Great seats remain for the game.

CRUSHER TURNS 3!: On February 19, the Red Claws will celebrate the third anniversary of the announcement of the team (02/25/09) a few days early with Crusher's 3rd Birthday Party. A perennial favorite night for the Red Claws' youngest fans, several of Crusher's mascot friends will be in attendance, and there will be a free concert by Rick Charette and the Bubblegum Band following the 1 PM contest vs. the Bakersfield Jam.
