Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Tuesday night matchup at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Royals played host to the Everett Silvertips in the first game of a doubleheader. Victoria started Keith Hamilton in net while Everett countered with Kent Simpson.
The Silvertips opened the scoring at 13:48 of the period off the stick of Cody Fowlie, who corralled a shot on net by Kohl Bauml and chopped his second of two chances past the glove hand of Hamilton. The Royals stepped up their physical play as the period continued, with several heavy hits thrown by Zane Jones and Tyler Stahl. Everett led 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
Everett looked to increase their lead when they were awarded a five-minute powerplay at 4:11 of the second period, but were held off by the Royals' penalty killers. Following the midway mark of the frame, Victoria's Tim Traber and Lucas Grayson of the Silvertips dropped the gloves in a highly spirited bout, which saw both players land blows. Everett would make it 2-0 with less than 90 seconds left in the period when Dominik Bittner moved in off the right point to the high slot and fired a hard wrist shot that beat Hamilton under the blocker. Everett held a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The Royals would cut in to the Silvertips' lead just past the five-minute mark of the third period after a scramble in the crease led to a loose puck that Ben Walker slapped home to extend his point-scoring streak to five games. Everett restored their two goal advantage at 11:41 when Fowlie centered a pass just inside the Royals' blue line for Ryan Harrison who shrugged off a Victoria defender and ripped a low blocker-side shot past Hamilton. With 47 seconds left to play, the Royals added a powerplay goal to make it 3-2. A shot from the blue line by Hayden Rintoul careened off the crossbar and directly on to the stick of Brandon Magee, who buried the rebound past Simpson to round out the scoring. Silvertips 3 Royals 2.
Victoria went 1/6 16.6% on the power play, while Everett was 0/3 0.0%. The Royals outshot the Silvertips 31-25.
Victoria concludes its two-game series against the Everett Silvertips tomorrow evening at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. PST.
