Peoria Rivermen News Release
Bishop stopped 32 in league-leading 17th win Derek Nesbitt and Brett Sonne scored goals 1:41 apart and Ben Bishop's 32 saves made it stand up as the Peoria Rivermen downed the Houston Aeros 2-1 on Saturday night at Carver Arena. The Rivermen won two out of three on the weekend and have now won nine of their last 13 games to move within three points of the division leaders.
With the win the Rivermen are 20-17-2-1 for 43 points and trail Charlotte and Chicago in the Midwest Division.
The first goal of the game did not come until the 15:03 mark of the second period when Nesbitt on the power play. Jonathan Cheechoo connected with Nesbitt on a pass across the slot whose one-timer beat Darcy Kemper for his 14th of the year.
At 16:44, Sonne scored his seventh of the year to make it 2-0. Sonne and linemate Tyler Shattock entered Houston's zone with a two-on-one rush. With the puck at the right faceoff dot Sonne fired the puck between the legs of Kuemper for an unassisted tally.
Houston ended Bishop's shutout streak at 13:24 of the third. Bishop, who shutout Lake Erie on Thursday, had not allowed a goal in 134 minutes and 14 seconds. Bishop stopped 14 shots in the third period alone and was named the No. 1 star of the game. Kemper, who made 16 first period saves, finished with 31.
