Guelph Storm News Release

The Storm returned from Christmas to play the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on December 28th at the Sleeman Centre. The team got off to a good start with Scott Kosmachuk scoring the only goal in the first period, and goaltender Brandon Foote putting on a solid performance. Despite a second period powerplay goal by Zach Leslie, Mississauga scored twice and the third period would start with the teams locked at 2-2. Jason Dickinson did his part to try to pull the Storm ahead with two goals in the third, but the Majors outscored the Storm with four goals of their own, including an empty net marker, to take the game by a score of 6-4.

Ending the year with a bang, the Storm traveled to Niagara on New Year's Eve to face an Ice Dogs team that was without several of its players due to international tournaments. After a scoreless first period, the Ice Dogs would strike first with a goal late in the second. After this, though, it would be all Storm, with Justin Auger, Francis Menard, Cody McNaughton, and Stephen Gaskin all getting goals in the third, as Garret Sparks stood tall in the net, to take the game 4-1.

Returning to Guelph on New Years Day, the Storm hosted the Kitchener Rangers for the first time, after having dropped two games to the Rangers at the Aud earlier in the season. Once again, Scott Kosmachuk would get things started for the Storm with a goal halfway through the first period, before Kitchener would get a goal of their own, to end the period tied. The remainder of the game would also be back and forth. Three powerplay goals in the second, one by Auger and the other two by the Rangers, would end the period with the Storm trailing by one. Zack Mitchell's powerplay goal in the third to equalize couldn't propel the team to a win as the Rangers would break the tie in the last minute to win 4-3.

Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that rookie forward Jason Dickinson is the Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 1st.

Dickinson recorded four points in three games this week scoring two goals and two assists. Starting the week off with his best game, the 16 year old scored two goals on Wednesday night against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and was named the second star in the 6-4 loss. On Saturday night in Niagara, Dickinson helped set up Cody McNaughton for his 15th of the year and the Storm's third of the night in their 4-1 victory over the IceDogs. New Year's Day in Guelph against Kitchener, the Georgetown native assisted on Mitchell's 18th of the year in the 4-3 loss.

Also considered this week were forwards Scott Kosmachuk and Zack Mitchell. Both recorded four points, two goals and two assists in three games.
