Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Looking for a little redemption after squandering a 21-point lead in the first game of two-game set last night with league powerhouse Iowa Energy (8-4), the Maine Red Claws (4-6) jumped out to the early lead tonight and never let it go. Led by Justin Brownlee's 21 points, the Red Claws picked up an impressive victory over the Eastern Conference leading Energy, 101-86, at the Portland Exposition Building this afternoon.
Maine attacked all night, shooting 52.0% while holding the usually hot-handed Energy to just 35.3% on the night. Justin Brownlee picked up back-to-back Adidas Player of the Game honors with a 21-point effort, adding 14 rebounds, 4 assists and two key blocks. Courtney Pigram equaled Brownlee's point tally, while Paul Harris rode a strong first half to 17 points with 9 rebounds. Tyc Snow added 16-points while picking up extra minutes for the injured Darren Cooper (ankle sprain), and the returning Mike Tisdale just missed a double-double in his second game back from the 76ers with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Energy struggled all night to find the basket, shooting just 35.3% and 25.0% from behind the arc. Andrew Drevo led the conference-leading Energy with 15 points and six rebounds while Darion Anderson contributed 15 points and 3 rebounds. Moses Ehambe added 14 points to the night's tally with 8 rebounds. Thomas Baudinet rounded out Iowa's scorers in double figures with 12 while adding 5 rebounds.
Following a brief holiday break, both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, December 27. The Red Claws will travel to Ohio to take on the NBA Development League's newest entry, the Canton Charge, on the Tuesday before returning home for a two-game New Year's set with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers December 31 and January 1. The Energy will host the Sioux Falls Skyforce on the 27th and then close out 2011 by hosting the Idaho Stamped on December 30.
