DES MOINES, IA Dec 10, 2011- The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy got 21 points from rookie guard Thomas Baudinet in their 103-89 win over Sioux Falls Saturday night. The win gives Iowa a sweep of the weekend series, and moves their record to 5-3 on the season.
Both teams stalled out of the gate as neither team could muster a point in the first 2:52 of the contest. An Andrew Drevo layup opened the scoring for Iowa, who were down 22-20 at the end of the 1st quarter.
The two Eastern conference rivals battled back and forth in the 2nd quarter, exchanging the lead numerous times. After a Michael Tveidt 3-pointer gave Iowa a 47-45 lead, Sioux Falls closed the half on a 4-0 spurt to take a 49-47 lead into the locker room. SkyForce standout Anthony Mason Jr. had a game high 16 points at the break to lead the visitors.
With the game tied 60-60 mid-way through the 3rd quarter, Iowa went on an 8-0 run, capped by a layup from Thomas Baudinet, to get the crowd in the game. After a Billy McShepard bucket ended the Energy's run, Iowa rattled off six straight points to take a commanding 74-62 lead.
Sioux Falls made one final effort to get back into the game in the 4th quarter, as a 7-0 SkyForce run brought the visitors to within three at 79-82. A Drevo jump hook ended that run, and Iowa stretched the lead to double digits in the final minutes of the game.
Baudinet's career high 21 points led the Energy, while rookie Nick Murphy scored 20 points off the bench . Iowa won the rebounding battle for the second consecutive night, this time by a 41-33 margin.
Sioux Falls was led by Mason's 26 point effort. Guard Dominique Coleman added 19 points and 9 rebounds for the SkyForce, who fall to 1-5 on the season.
The Energy head to Ft. Wayne Friday night before returning home Saturday, December 17th against Reno.
