IceDogs Earn Big Road Win, Pound Petes 5-2

The Niagara IceDogs used a strong third period to defeat the Peterborough Petes 5-2 on Thursday night.

The IceDogs got on the board first with a powerplay goal by Andrew Agozzino with 5:09 remaining in the first period. Mark Visentin made nine saves to maintain the lead heading into the first intermission.

Peterborough would tie up the game at the 6:00 minute mark, only to surrender the lead four minutes later on another IceDogs powerplay, this time scored by Dougie Hamilton. Steven Shipley and Brock Beukeboom received assists on the goal. Peterborough would tie the score again before the end of the period, scoring with only two seconds remaining on the game clock.

The third period belonged to the Niagara IceDogs as they scored three times in the frame. Myles Doan scored the first to retake the lead, followed by Mitchell Theoret and David Pacan with insurance markers. Niagara's defence held the Petes off the board in the third, making it a 5-2 victory for the visiting IceDogs.

Mark Visentin made 25 saves for his tenth win of the season.

The Niagara IceDogs next game is Friday, December 9th as they pay a visit to Central Division rivals, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.

They will then return to Niagara to host the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday night. The mayor of St. Catharines and city councillors will be in attendance to drop the puck before the game.
