Windsor Spitfires News Release
Saverio Posa is known more for his defensive prowess than his offensive flair.
But the veteran blueliner looked right at home scoring the game-winning goal on Thursday night, in a 2-1 win over the Belleville Bulls.
After gaining the puck at the Belleville line, Posa juked past a pair of defenders before deftly cutting to the crease, where he beat goalie Malcolm Subban up high.
"I'm not usually known for stuff like that," Posa joked after the game. "But it was sure nice to pot that one for the boys."
The goal got the Spitfires (15-14-3-1) off the hook for a second period in which they gave up 22 shots and a Stephen Silas goal.
Trailing 1-0, Michael Clarke's 11th of the season tied the game at 2:11 of the third period.
Jaroslav Pavelka did the rest, stopping 42 shots for his second win in as many starts.
Malcolm Subban made 29 saves in goal for Belleville.
The big story of the game was Windsor's stingy penalty kill, which held the visitors goalless in six attempts.
The Spits head to Kitchener on Friday for a date with the Rangers.
We're back home to take on the Erie Otters Saturday night. The evening will be highlighted by the retirment of Spitfire legend Bill Bowler's #9. The game will also feature our annual Teddy Bear Toss.
