DES MOINES, IA - The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy couldn't overcome an 11 point halftime deficit as the Erie BayHawks defeated the Energy 97-87 Sunday night. The win gave Erie a split of the two game weekend series with Iowa.
After a see-saw 1st quarter, Erie outscored the Energy 31-21 in the 2nd quarter to take a 51-40 lead into halftime. Erie's Mychel Thompson scored 12 points in the half while Tirrell Baines added 10. Iowa was led by Brandon Ewing's eight 1st half points.
After an even 3rd quarter, Iowa used an 11-3 run to cut the Erie lead to 83-76 with 6:50 left in the game. Just as the momentum appeared to be in the Energy's favor, Thompson drilled a 3-pointer that started a 7-0 run for the BayHawks to put the game away for the visitors.
Donald Sloan led Erie with 21 points and 7 assists while center Chris Daniels added 15 points and 13 rebounds. The win moves Erie to 2-3 on the season.
Ewing finished with 17 points and 7 assists for the Energy, who now stand at 3-3 on the year.
