Zach Graham led the Bighorns with 22 points and 9 rebounds off the bench and Blake Ahearn added 19 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Elijah Millsap led all players with 23 points for the D-Fenders. Tonight's win marked was first for head coach Paul Mokeski with the Bighorns and the first under the ownership of Bighorns Basketball, LLC.
"Tonight was a great win for the Bighorns organization," said Bighorns owner and managing partner Herb Santos, Jr. "I am excited for coach Paul Mokeski and the players to get their first win. Tonight showed how resilient our team is, to come together and win their last game of a four-game road trip."
Nick Fazekas shot the ball effectively, going 4 for 4 from the field and 3 for 3 from the free throw line to total 11 points and chipping in 5 rebounds. McCullough returned to the starting lineup for the Bighorns, scoring 15 points on 6 of 8 shots. Five Bighorns finished in double figures.
"We had a great practice yesterday and fixed some things for tonight's game," said Fazekas. "Congratulations to Coach Mokeski for his first win. It feels good to get this monkey off of our backs."
The Bighorns were down 44-47 at halftime, but outscored the D-Fenders 28-14 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. Los Angeles would cut the lead to one point in the final minute, but the Bighorns used careful clock management and ball control to finish out the game.
The Bighorns will play their first home game in Reno on Friday night against the Bakersfield Jam at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in the door will receive a free long-sleeve Bighorns t-shirts.
