Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (2-3-0) defeated the Texas Brahmas (1-4-0) by a 1-0 score on Friday night. Aaron Lee recorded the Bees lone goal while Dan Dunn and John Murray combined to make 31 saves on 31 shots.

As the first period came to a close the two teams had yet to find the back of the net but that changed as Aaron Lee picked off the top corner with only 41.5 seconds remaining in the period. For Lee it was his fourth straight game with a goal. Jason Dixon and Zac Pearson picked up the assists.

The two teams would trade chances in the second period but neither was able to break the 1-0 score. Texas had the best opportunity as Kyle Howard was awarded a penalty shot halfway through the period but had the puck roll off his stick never coming in on Bees goalie Dan Dunn.

In the third period the teams would once again trade chances but once again each of the goalies stood up to the challenge, however for the Bees the third period was not played by Dan Dunn. Dunn was unable to come out for the third forcing John Murray into action. Murray made 13 saves in the third period to keep the Brahmas off the board and preserving the shutout.

The Bees continue their homestand tomorrow night hosting the Tulsa Oilers at the State Farm Arena at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night is the Bees youth jersey giveaway with the first 1,000 fans age 12 and under receiving a youth jersey provided by Another Closet Self Storage. Tickets are available by calling 956-843-7825.
