Royals Extend Tryout Agreements to Three More

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has extended tryout agreements to defenseman Justin Kemmerer ["KEM mer er"] and goaltenders Shane Davis and Brian Matesevac ["MAT eh SEE vack"]. In a separate transaction previously completed, the Royals released forward Joe Cucci. The Royals have twenty-eight players signed for the 2011-12 season, twenty-two to ECHL contracts and six to tryout agreements.

Kemmerer (6'3/197) (24), who hails from Hershey, Pennsylvania, registered twenty-one points (9g-12a) and forty-six penalty minutes in ninety-eight games with Bentley University, where he was a two-time selection to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team. This marks the third season that Davis (5'11/185) (24) has toiled in a Royals uniform. In 2008-09, the Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, native served as the team's back-up goaltender in seventeen games and saw playing time in one. Last season, Davis backed up in six games for Reading. Matesevac (6'1/195) (23), played collegiately at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was named second team all conference in College Hockey Mid-America in his final season with the team.

The Royals will face the Cincinnati Cyclones in the team's 2011-12 home opener on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 7:05 pm at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The team kicks off the season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, October 14 (7:05 pm). That game, as with all Royals' road games this year, will be televised live courtesy of Royals TV presented by Boscov's Travel and Royal Caribbean Cruise lines in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV.
