
Missions Take Game One With 3-0 Shutout

San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions took the series opener of the Texas League South Division playoffs with a 3-0 victory over Frisco Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium.
Starter Joe Wieland (1-0), facing his former teammates, surrendered just two hits and no runs while walking one and fanning eight in seven innings.
Frisco starter Robbie Ross (0-1) struck out 11 of the first 17 batters he faced and carried a no- hitter into the bottom of the sixth. Jaff Decker walked to lead off the frame and then stole second. Two batters later, first baseman Cody Decker doubled down the left field line for San Antonio's first hit as Jaff Decker came around to score for a 1-0 lead.
The Missions added two insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI single from Vince Belnome that plated Blake Tekotte, then Jedd Gyorko scored on a pinch-hit single by Carlos Sosa. Miles Mikolas retired the RoughRiders in order in the ninth for the save.
Tonight was the 12th playoff meeting between the two teams dating back to 2003. San Antonio has now won eight of those contests, outscoring Frisco 56-35 along the way.
Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Simon Castro (5-6, 4.33 ERA in the regular season) will start for the Missions and left-hander Ben Snyder (11-5, 3.87 ERA in the regular season) goes for the RoughRiders.
