Jamie Keefe Named Can-Am League Manager of the Year

September 5, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) Pittsfield Colonials

PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials will head into the Can-Am League playoffs with at least one major league award in their back pocket as Jamie Keefe was named the Can-Am League Manager of the Year.

"It is an honor to win this award because it is a testament to the 22 guys who played their hearts out every day to make this even possible," said Keefe.

The award comes on the heels of a regular season in which Keefe guided Pittsfield to a 53-39 overall record and pulled down the third seed in the Can-Am League playoffs, which begin Wednesday. The Colonials recorded a 24-9 record from July 31 through the end of the regular season.

Pittsfield ended the season with a league record 158 steals, breaking the mark that they had set last season as eight different players stole 10 or more bases in a Pittsfield uniform this season. Five different everyday players hit over .300 on the year, helping to contribute to a team batting average of .290. On the pitching side, Pittsfield finished the year third in the Can-Am League in ERA and set a league standard with 17 complete games on the season.

What makes the Colonials' on-field success even more impressive is the amount of time that Pittsfield lost to injuries on the season. Six different Colonials players spent time on the disabled list this season missing over 150 games in the process.

The Colonials will start the playoffs at New Jersey on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. with Chad Paronto (9-7, 3.80) on the hill for Pittsfield against Isaac Pavlik (13-3, 2.73) for the Jackals. All Colonials' playoff games can be heard on 89.7 WTBR FM. Coverage will begin with the pregame show on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
