Asheville Tourists News Release
The upcoming offseason will be a little shorter for Asheville baseball fans. The Tourists will open their home slate next season at McCormick Field on Thursday, April 5, against the Delmarva Shorebirds, which is 10 days earlier than the team's home opener in 2011.
The Tourists begin the 2012 campaign with a four-game series versus the Shorebirds before welcoming the West Virginia Power to McCormick Field for a three-game set, from April 9-11. The home schedule features a July 4th date against the Augusta Green Jackets as well as 12 Thirsty Thursdays and 11 games each on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
"The schedule is the foundation for everything we do, so we always get a little excited to see what we have to work with," said Tourists president Brian DeWine. "The early start should work well, and we only have 11 games in April, which should help us get the majority of our contests in warmer weather. We're very pleased with the way the schedule worked out, and we're already putting ideas together and making plans to make it the best season yet at McCormick Field."
After opening April with 11 games at McCormick Field, the Tourists will play 18 home contests in May, 10 in June, 15 in July and 16 in August. Promotions scheduled for specific dates will be announced as the information becomes available over the offseason.
The Tourists have one final home series of the 2011 season, a five-game series against the Hagerstown Suns that begins on Friday night, August 26, at 7:05 p.m. The homestand kicks off with Friday's contest that features free bats for fans age 16 and under, sponsored by Star 104.3, and t-shirts from Black Orthodontics for the first 500 adults.
