Florence Y'alls News Release
Freedom southpaw Chris Ingoglia was hit early and often and Beach Bums starter Bryan Banes earned his seventh win of the season in Traverse City's 8-4 win Saturday night.
The Beach Bums got to Freedom starter Chris Ingoglia in the third inning. With two out, Zack Pace and Matt Brown hit back-to-back singles and Chase Burch hit a three-run homer to give Traverse City a 3-0 lead.
Traverse City came back for more in the fourth, as Jeff Flagg doubled with one out and scored on a two-out RBI double by Tom Zebroski. The Freedom got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Drew Rundle to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Ingoglia was knocked out of the game in a big fifth inning by the Beach Bums. Zack Pace hit a single and Burch hit another homer, this time a two-run shot. JT Hall hit an infield single and with two out, Ingoglia was relieved by Preston Vancil. Vancil walked the first two batters he faced and surrendered a two-run double to Tom Zebroski. Greg Burns was thrown out at home to end the inning, but Traverse City's lead was 8-1 after a four-run inning.
Ingoglia (4-4) gave up seven runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings and struck out two. It was the most runs he has allowed this season. One of the runs in the fifth was charged to Vancil.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Freedom had two on with nobody out when Kevin Haas hit a liner toward shortstop Jose Vargas. Vargas took it on a bounce and tagged John Malloy between second and third before tagging second and throwing to first for a 6-3 triple play.
Banes started the seventh but loaded the bases before being pulled for Jeff Cinadr. Drew Rundle scored on a passed ball, Junior Arrojo lifted a sac fly and Cole Miles lined an RBI single for a three-run seventh inning to cut the Beach Bums lead in half, but that was all the Freedom could muster.
Banes (7-0) allowed four runs but just one of them was earned in six innings of work. He leads the Frontier League with seven victories.
Sunday marks the final game before the All-Star break for the Freedom, as they look to take the rubber match against Traverse City. The Freedom, 5-1 in rubber matches this season, will send righty Tim Holmes (2-4, 2.82) to the mound to face Don Pugliese (1-1, 2.41).
