
Home Run Derby Participants Selected

Sauget, IL - The participants in the 2011 Frontier League Home Run Derby have been announced. Representing the West Division are Chris Curley from the Florence Freedom, Charlie Lisk and Logan Parker from the Gateway Grizzlies, Steve Alexander and Asif Shah from the Normal CornBelters, and Stephen Holdren from the River City Rascals. The East Division will feature Andrew Davis from the host Lake Erie Crushers, Erik Lis from the Joliet Slammers, Jake Eigsti from the Rockford RiverHawks, J.T. Hall from the Traverse City Beach Bums, Scott Lawson from the Washington Wild Things, and Devin Shepherd from the Windy City ThunderBolts.
Entering this weekend's play, Steve Alexander leads the Frontier League with 15 home runs, followed by J.T. Hall with 11. Charlie Lisk set the Frontier League's career home run record last season and currently has 98 home runs in his sixth season in the Frontier League, while Stephen Holdren ranks second all-time with 90 home runs in six seasons.
For the first round of the derby, each of the 12 batters will receive ten outs in which to hit as many home runs as possible. An out consists of any swing that does not result in a home run. The top four batters will advance to the second round where they will each get eight outs. The top two batters from the first and second rounds combined will advance to the finals. The finals feature five outs per batter, and home runs from the first two rounds will not carry over.
The All-Star Home Run Derby will begin at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, July 12 at All Pro Freight Stadium, home of the Lake Erie Crushers. The derby will be preceded by the All-Star Fan Fest. Gates to the Fan Fest open at 4:30 pm, with the event beginning at 5:30 pm.
The 2011 Frontier League All-Star Game, presented by Mercy, will take place at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio, home of the Lake Erie Crushers. All-Star events open with a Fan Fest and Home Run Derby on Tuesday, July 12 followed by the game at 7:05 pm on Wednesday, July 13.
