Late Inning Homerun Seals Drive Win

Rome, GA - The Greenville Drive defeated the Rome Braves 5-4 Thursday night in front of 2,453 fans at State Mutual Stadium. This was the first game in a three game series.

Rome scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Christian Bethancourt making the score 1-0. In the sixth inning, Greenville came back to tie the score on a sacrifice fly by David Renfroe.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Braves regained the lead on a sacrifice fly by Chris Garcia giving Rome the 2-1 advantage. Greenville scored three times in the seventh inning on a three run homerun by Brandon Jacobs (7) for the 4-2 lead.

Rome made it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the seventh when Matt Lipka singled and later scored on an RBI triple by Robert Hefflinger. Greenville added another run in the eighth on an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts giving the Drive a 5-3 lead. The Braves made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Hefflinger but Greenville pitching held on for the victory.

Brandon Workman (2-4) gets the win for Greenville, while Tyler Stovall (0-2) gets the loss for Rome. Charle Rosario gets his first save of the year.
