Suns Pitching Dominates in 4-1 Game One Win

Salisbury, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns (36-24) held the Delmarva Shorebirds (32-28) to just five hits as the Suns took game one of the series 4-1 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday night. The Shorebirds fall four games out of first place with ten games remaining in the first half.

The game marked the first professional matchup between Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. Harper went 1-for-4 while Machado also went 1-for-4 with a home run.

The Shorebirds scored the game's first run in the first inning. With two outs, Machado hit his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall.

The Suns tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Randolph Oduber hit a home run over the left field wall.

In the fifth, the Suns took their first lead of the night. With one out, Jason Martinson hit a home run to left-center field to give the Suns a 2-1 edge.

The Suns added runs in the seventh and ninth innings. In the seventh, Martinson hit a leadoff triple and scored on a single by Wade Moore. In the ninth, Oduber single and moved to second on a passed ball by Michael Ohlman. Then, Mills Rogers hit a slow roller up the third baseline to score Oduber.

Sammy Solis (1-0) earned the win in 6.2 innings pitched. He surrendered five hits and one run. Solis also fanned five batters and issued only one walk.

Shorebirds starter Jacob Pettit (5-2) was pinned with the loss. He scattered seven hits in 6.1 innings. Pettit struck out six batters and did not issue a walk.

Chris Manno entered in the ninth inning and picked up his eighth save of the season.

The Shorebirds and Suns play game two of the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
