Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - Steve Tinoco's two-out single in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the Bowling Green Hot Rods a 4-3 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Tinoco drove in a pair of runs in the game. The loss, Wisconsin's second straight in extra innings, spoiled a fine outing by Rattlers starting pitcher Brooks Hall.
The Hot Rods (29-24) broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth inning. A pair of bloop singles to center - one by Julio Cedeno and one by Tinoco - drove in runs to give Bowling Green a 2-0.
Wisconsin (27-25) had the leadoff man aboard in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, but failed to score. They did not make that mistake in the sixth inning. Cody Hawn drew a leadoff walk and Chris Dennis followed with a single to right. Franklin Romero bunted the runners up to second and third to set the stage for Tony Pechek.
The Rattlers catcher sent a high popup to foul territory in right. Second baseman Robby Price made a nice catch, but was knocked to the ground after he collided with first baseman Phil Wunderlich. Hawn alertly broke for the plate and scored easily. Dennis also tagged and went to third on what turned out to be a big play as the next pitch to the plate eluded catcher Luke Bailey for a passed ball. Dennis scored to tie the game 2-2.
Pechek delivered an two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to send Dennis home with a run that gave Wisconsin a 3-2 lead.
Brooks Hall, the Rattlers starting pitcher went back out for the bottom of the eighth inning to protect the lead. But, he gave up back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with no outs. Eric Marzec relieved and got Cedeno to ground into a 4-6-3, but the tying run scored from third base.
Hall pitched seven innings, allowed three runs on eight hits, but was not involved in the decision.
The Hot Rods got two runners aboard in the bottom of the ninth inning against Marzec, but Tom Keeling came on to get out of the inning and send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, Mike Walker singled to start the inning. He was the seventh Rattlers of the game to reach base to start the inning. He was sacrificed to second base, but was left stranded when the inning ended.
In the bottom of the tenth, Keeling hit the leadoff batter, but a poor sacrifice attempt allowed Keeling to get the lead runner at second base. However, Cedeno followed with a single to right and that moved the winning run to third base.
Keeling struck out Nick Schwaner for the second out and was ahead of Tinoco 0-2. But, Tinoco lined the next pitch into right for a single and to drive in the game winning run.
Wisconsin hitters went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark. Jimmy Nelson (1-4, 4.81) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Enny Romero (1-2, 6.46) is set to start for the Hot Rods. Game time is 12:05pm. Tune in for the Miller Lite Pregame Show on AM1280, WNAM starting at 11:45am.
