Dragons Announce Nominees for Players of the Month

DAYTON, OHIO-The Dayton Dragons have announced their nominees for the team's Batter and Pitcher of the Month awards for May. Fans can go to www.daytondragons.com to vote for the players that they feel are most deserving of the award based on the month to date.

Each month, three hitters and three pitchers will be selected as nominees based on their performances on the field. The winning players will be honored on Thursday, June 2, during an inning break of the Dragons game. There will also be a Player of the Month luncheon on Friday, June 3 at Skyline Chili, 1153 Brown Street (near the University of Dayton) at 12:00 noon. Fans may attend to ask questions to the winning players and receive autographs. The players will be available to the media for interviews.

Below are the nominees for May (with stats from May 1-May 30):

Hitter of the Month Nominees:

* C Tucker Barnhart - Barnhart leads the team (minimum 50 at-bats) in batting average (.323), on-base percentage (.362), and slugging percentage (.508) for the month. He has added one home run, five doubles, two triples, and seven runs batted in. He has a current 12-game hitting streak (through Monday).

* 1B Dominic D'Anna - D'Anna leads the team in runs batted in for the month with 15 while batting .241 with two home runs. He also has four doubles and a triple. He had an 11-game hitting streak earlier in the month.

* 3B David Vidal - Vidal leads the team in home runs (5) while batting .244. His 12 RBI ranks tied for second on the team in May and he has added four doubles.

Pitcher of the Month Nominees:

* RHP Daniel Corcino - Corcino is 3-1 in five starts in May with a 2.19 ERA. He leads the team in wins and has limited opposing batters to a .209 average against him. He has walked six and struck out 32.

* RHP Drew Hayes - Hayes is 4 for 4 in save situations for the Dragons. In nine games out of the bullpen, he has allowed just two runs in 12.1 innings. His ERA is 1.46. Opposing batters are hitting .156 against him. He has walked six and struck out 17.

* RHP Daniel Wolford - In nine relief appearances, Wolford is 1-0 with a 1.84 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .176 against him. He has walked eight and struck out 14 batters.
