Thunder Roll at Hadlock with 6-4 Win

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (31-19) used a four run seventh inning to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 6-4 before a crowd of 5,279 Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The Yankees affiliate won four of the five games in the series. The Sea Dogs (14-34) completed their longest homestand of the season with a 2-7 record.

Cody Johnson homered in the fourth inning and smashed a two run double in the seventh to lead the Thunder to their tenth win in eleven games.

Ryan Lavarnway greeted Yankees pitching prospect Dellin Betances with a two run homer in the first inning to give the Sea Dogs a quick 2-0 lead. The home run was Lavarnway's 11th of the season and fourth of the homestand. The 2010 Red Sox Co-offensive Minor League Player of the Year has now hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.

Portland added a run in the third when Tim Federowicz singled home Jon Hee for a 3-0 Sea Dogs lead.

Portland starter Alex Wilson pitched five solid innings scattering eight hits and allowing two runs including the fourth inning homer by Johnson.

Kyle Fernandes (0-2) relieved Wilson in the sixth and got in trouble in the seventh surrendering four runs and suffering the loss. Johnson delivered a bases loaded double scoring two runs giving the Thunder a 4-3 lead. Jose Gil quickly followed with a two run double of his own providing a few insurance runs as Trenton extended the lead to 6-4.

Fernando Hernandez (5-2) earns the win in the relief of Betances, tossing one inning of no-hit ball. Josh Schmidt earns his sixth save working a perfect ninth.

The Sea Dogs embark on a seven game/ six day road trip on Tuesday. The road trip starts with a doubleheader against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) Tuesday at 5:05 PM at New Britain Stadium. The Sea Dogs will send right-handed pitcher Miguel Gonzalez (0-2, 8.22) to the mound in game one. Righty Brett Jacobson (1-0, 2.93) gets the nod for the Rock Cats. Starters for game two have not yet been announced. The Sea Dogs will return home on Tuesday, June 7th at 7:00 PM against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants).
