Blair Beats Whitecaps 3-1

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH)- Kyle Blair tossed six scoreless innings and struck out a career high nine on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park for his third win of the season. Lake County defeated West Michigan 3-1 in front of 3,408 fans.

The Captains took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning, taking advantage or two WhiteCap errors. Alex Monsalve drove in the games first run with an infield single scoring Levon Washington. Anthony Gallas hit his league leading 21st double of the season to score Jesus Aguilar to make it 2-0, Lake County. Gallas extended his hit streak to a season twelve straight games.

Lake County added a huge insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring another unearned run. Monsalve hit into a fielder's choice a throwing error allowed Washington to score from third to make it 3-0.

Steven Moya erased the shutout with a solo homerun to leftfield his second of the season making it 3-1.

Kyle Blair (3-3) turned around his rough month of May with a gem, tossing six scoreless innings allowing just five hits, walking two and striking out a career high nine. Clayton Ehlert pitched the ninth inning allowing a run on one hit for his ninth save of the season. Antonio Cruz (1-5) put together a solid outing but suffered the loss going six innings, allowing two runs, both unearned on five hits, walking one and striking out four.

Lake County and West Michigan will wrap up the long weekend series on Monday afternoon at Classic with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00PM. In game one, it will be LHP Mike Rayl (4-0) for the Captains against RHP Josue Carreno (1-6) for the WhiteCaps. In the second game, it will be TBA for both clubs. Racing Weekend will take place on Sunday and Monday as the Lake County Speedway will have exhibits, race cars and their drivers out at Classic Park. There is also special $15 ticket offer for fans who want to attend the Captains games during the day and then go to the Speedway in the evening.

Monday is Memorial Day and is Buck Day, presented by PNC, and will feature $1 Five Star Brand Hot Dogs, fries, chips, onion rings, popcorn, soda and beer. The Captains and Whitecaps will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.

The home stand will continue on Tuesday with another Bark in the Park night, presented by Marc's Doggie Rewards, when fans can bring their canine friends to Classic Park. Dog owners can purchase $5 pooch passes, from which a portion of the proceeds will benefit Marc's Doggie Rewards. The Captains will offer $1 hot dogs on Tuesday nights to complete the dog theme. The team is also presenting a special ticket offer from KRAFT Singles as fans can buy one ticket and get a ticket.
