
Captains Mike Rayl Named Indians Minor League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced Lake County starter LHP MIKE RAYL has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the week of May 1-7. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and will be announced each Tuesday thru the end of the minor league baseball season. All players from the Tribe's minor league affiliates are eligible for the weekly award.
This past week, Rayl, 22, made just one start for the Lake County Captains and tossed 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit, while striking out 11 and not walking a batter. He took a no-hitter into the 6th inning in the Captains 4-0 victory over Bowling Green in Classic Park on May 4. Thus far this year, Rayl is 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA (35.1IP, 23H, 10R/9ER, 9BB, 39K) in 7 starts. He has not allowed a run in 3 of his 7 starts and currently is tied for the Midwest League lead in wins (4), is T4th in strikeouts (39), 11th in innings pitched (35.1) and 17th in ERA (2.29).
A native of West Palm Beach, FL, Rayl was the Indians 15th round selection of the 2009 June Draft out of Palm Beach Community College. Last year, the 6-2, 195-pound left-hander finished 7th in the New York-Penn League in ERA (2.81).
