Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs have activated INF Jonathan Mota from the seven-day disabled list today. Mota was placed on the DL on April 21. In a corresponding move, Chicago has announced the release of catcher Max Ramirez.

Mota's return will add depth to the Cubs infield which has been short-handed since he was placed on the DL. He is hitting .263 (5-for-19) with three runs scored, two RBI, two doubles and a home run in seven games for Iowa. Mota will be able to spell Matt Camp at shortstop, who is the only other player available at that position.

Ramirez was hitting .235 (8-for-34) for Iowa with one home run, seven runs scored and five RBI in 11 games played this season. He was claimed off waivers by Chicago from Boston on January 10, 2011.

The Cubs open a four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs tonight at Principal Park at 7:05 p.m. RH Jay Jackson (1-0, 3.94) will start for the Cubs against RH Tom Koehler (2-0, 3.25) for the Zephyrs.
